Ken Sowards appointed lay member of American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons’ Board of Directors

LAS VEGAS - Business consultant Ken Sowards, of Colleyville, Texas, today was appointed lay member to the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons (AAOS) Board of Directors. He assumed his new position at the organization’s annual meeting.

Sowards currently is a principal with RKS Consulting in Dallas, an independent professional services firm providing value enhancement strategy, operational optimization, process improvement, change management implementation, and mergers and acquisitions guidance for public and private companies.  He has held senior executive responsibilities with service and technology companies, including experience with multiple start-up and rapid-growth businesses in the telecommunications, solar, data center services and interactive wellness/fitness office equipment fields. He also has served as chief financial officer and chief executive officer of several multimillion-dollar companies, and has extensive international experience.

He received his bachelor’s degree in economics from Austin College in Sherman, Texas, and a master’s in business administration from the University of Texas, Austin. Sowards is a member of the board of directors for several companies as well as the North Texas Regional Center of Innovation and Commercialization.

“It is a privilege to serve as the lay board member for AAOS,” said Sowards. “The convergence of state-of-the-art technology and delivery systems, medical resources and complex engagement, certification and reimbursement processes create a unique opportunity for the Academy to continue its positive impact on the health care system, and most importantly, on patient care. I look forward to helping the organization to tackle and optimize these challenges.”

Sowards and his wife, Debbie, have two grown children.
