David J. Mansfield, MD, of El Paso, Texas, named Academy Board of Councilors chair

LAS VEGAS - Orthopaedic surgeon David J. Mansfield, MD, of El Paso, Texas, was named chair of the Board of Councilors (BOC) of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons (AAOS) at the AAOS Annual Meeting.
The BOC represents orthopaedic surgeons in all 50 states, the District of Columbia, the U.S. military, Puerto Rico, Canada, and four regional orthopaedic societies, and serves as an advisory body to the AAOS Board of Directors and a resource to AAOS committees.  In addition, the BOC manages Academy relations with the state orthopaedic societies, and conducts a wide range of programs to support and strengthen these organizations.
Dr. Mansfield is a partner in the El Paso Orthopaedic Surgery Group and is chief of orthopaedic service at El Paso Specialty Hospital. He also serves as team physician for the University of Texas at El Paso athletic program and the Coronado High School football team.
He received an undergraduate degree at Rice University and his medical degree from Baylor College of Medicine, both in Houston.  Dr. Mansfield completed general surgery and orthopaedic surgery residencies at Baylor College of Medicine, and an orthopedic sports medicine fellowship at Lenox Hill Hospital in New York.
Dr. Mansfield has served on the AAOS Board of Councilors since 2009 and was president of the Texas Orthopaedic Association from 2012 to 2013. Dr. Mansfield is currently chairman of the Texas Orthopaedic Foundation.
Dr. Mansfield lives in El Paso with his wife and five children.
